Cameroon: 200 killed in boat accident
200 people have been killed this weekend on the Ladgo waterway. Cameroon Concord gathered that the tragedy involved 2 boats transporting 200 including those returning from a wedding ceremony.Jean Abate Edi'i the governor of the North region has officially confirmed the accident and revealed that the Cameroon marines dispatched to the area are now undertaken what the governor described as "a recovery mission"---- an indication that all 200 passengers on board the two vessels are dead.
Governor Jean Abate told state radio and television that 38 dead bodies have been recovered. On the causes of the shipwreck, our source evoked bad weather and a violent non-compliance with safety rules including overload. The recovered bodies were immediately buried according to Muslim tradition.
The administrative authorities in the region have taken preventive measures after the tragedy including a ban on night travel by canoe. It is vital to include in this report that traveling between Ladgo and Mayo-Rey is by the river Ladgo.
