Cameroon: Farmers in Nkuv-Bui Division protest destruction of crops Fulani cattles
Farmers from the village of Nkuv in Bui Division, NW Region Cameroon marched in protest to the palace of His Majesty the Fon of Nso after their crops have been ravaged by cattle own by Fulanis under their Chief MAJIALI. They seem to have lost faith in the administration which installed Majiali in their neighborhood.
The people of Nkuv in nso land gathered yesterday in the nso palace in front of nwerong's sactum, with tears and heavy hearts as the rich mbororo people in nkuv are killing human beings, destroying land, stock etc, it was a sorrowful event .
In 2014,Nkuv farmers were alleged to have embarked on the burning of huts belonging to graziers, wounding some cows in the process and roasting some calves for a feast as graziers in turn allowed their herd to trample on crops of farmers.
After the incident, the Ardo of Nkuv, Ardorate Ardo Salifu Majaille and other graziers ran to the divisional officer of Kumbo and reported the matter.
The Shufai of Nkuv also went to the divisional officer of Kumbo the same day but was detained at the Kumbo police.
The famer/grazier commission with the divisional officer of Kumbo as the chairman and accompanied by the police visited the scene on October, 21 2014 to assess the damage caused to crops, the huts burnt down and the cows either wounded or killed. They took shots of the scene as evidence for legal action.
The conflict between the farmers and the graziers keeps on coming up every year and the best way to resolve it, observers say, is for a demarcation to be made between grazing land and farm land.
Some quarters are of the opinion that peaceful settlement of the conflict between the farmers and graziers is better than court settlement that would not give the problem a long lasting solution.
