The Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General for Central Africa and Head of the United Nations Regional Office for Central Africa (UNOCA), Mr. François Louncény Fall, has learnt with relief the decision by President Paul Biya instructing that internet services be fully restored in the North-West and South-West Regions of Cameroon, with effect from 20 April.
The Special Representative welcomes this measure, which is in line with those recently announced by the Government to address the demands of English-Speaking teachers and lawyers. He takes note that the decision will go along way to help reduce tension and to create conditions conducive for the resolution of the crisis in the two regions.
The Head of UNOCA counts on the Government of Cameroon to continue to promote appeasement and dialogue, and to take all other appropriate measures aimed at a speedy and lasting resolution of the crisis in order to strengthen unity, stability and prosperity in Cameroon.
The Special Representative takes the opportunity to express the wish that the Cameroonian People will maintain their spirit of patriotism and show restraint during this trying period, including by avoiding the use of the Internet to incite hatred or violence.

The Department of English Law has just been created in the faculties of Law and Political Science of the University of Douala, University of Maroua, University of Dschang and University of Ngaoundere, as well as a department of French Private Law in the Faculty of Law and Political Science of the University of Bamenda, and the University of Buea.
The message read on the state-run broadcaster, CRTV, is contained in a series of orders issued by the Minister of Higher, Jacques Fame Ndongo.
This is the execution of a series of promises made by the Minister of Justice during one of his outings in a bit to solve the concerns raised by Southern Cameroons.
Laurent Esso had pledged the creation of these departments in those universities on the 30 of March 2017. The Department of Common Law was to be created at the Advanced School of Administration and Magistracy (ENAM).
This move follows the current strike atmosphere in Southern Cameroons. Common Law lawyers started the unrest for reasons closely linked to what they call the undue invasion of their legal system by the Francophone legal culture and legal practitioners.
The move is one among a host of steps to be followed in order to curb the unrest in Southern Cameroons.
The people are still demanding the unconditional release of all the detainees connected to the strike.
Meanwhile some Christians are planning to invade court premises in Bamenda on Monday when the trial of some men of God starts.
Internet services were reinstated in the Anglophone regions yesterday on President Biya’s orders after more than three months of blackout. Government had blamed the blackout on the people’s use of the internet to spread false information of social media.

The Minister of Communication and Government spokesman has threatened to ban French magazine, Jeune Afrique for its critical stance on Cameroon's long serving leader Paul Biya and the country.
Issa Tchiroma Bakary who was addressing pressmen in Yaounde says the repeated attacks on Cameroon by the publication is aimed at "destabilizing the nation, undermining the country's intergrity."
Tchiroma's outburst came on the heels of another firebrand article against the regime this time through former Secretary General at the Presidency, Marafa Hamidou Yaya
Marafa now incarcerated for stealing from the state purse slammed the regime for sending him to prison unjustly. He revealed to Jeune Afrique that he is paying the price for advising President Biya not to vie for another term.
The government songbird described the former regime baron's remarks as malicious, giving a chronological run down of the events leading to the imprisonment of Marafa. He also gave numerous instances where the French publication had written about the Head of state or Cameroon in bad, warning the media organ to stop sowing seeds of chaos or they will be taken off circulation in the country.
The communication minister is calling on Cameroonians to stay focused and not be derailed by those whose ambition is to destabilize the country.
The relationship between the Regime and Jeune Afrique which was very cordial has taken an ugly twist over the last decade leaving political and media commentators to suspect that the severed marriage could be linked to the shaky relationship between Yaounde and Paris.

More light has been shed on the news that rocked the media late last week; that a certain consortium of two parents were dragging the Bishops, Fathers, Sisters and Principals of the Catholic Church to court. The clarification came thanks to Colonel Tamambang Simon Nche who has washed his hands from the consortium of two parents. He says he is not connected in any way to the consortium and that he has never contacted any lawyer or bailiff to initiate any court action against the servants of God.
Although light has been shed on the issue, more questions have surfaced in the minds of many Anglophone Cameroonians concerning the matter.
Who then is Barrister Achu Julius and what will become of the ‘one parent left’ consortium?
Pundits say Barrister Achu Julius is simply a hungry Cameroonian who may have been driven by greed and selfishness to yield in to the devices of the evil one by accepting to be the defending lawyer of the said consortium.
Many foresee that the starving Barrister may soon have no other person in the consortium to defend on court day.
However, critics say the career of hungry Barrister Achu Julius may suffer simply because of the stance he took against his own people in the middle of a liberation struggle.

The inhabitants of Bamenda are planning to give the reinstatement of the internet in the North West a welcome that has been described by many as one of a kind; they plan to observe a one day ghost town to commemorate the event.
A Bamenda local says “we cannot be distracted from the fight. The reinstatement of the internet is just one of the many demands we made to the state. The Anglophone problem remains unsolved and so we will dedicate a one day ghost town to cool down this excitement and make the population understand that internet was their basic right from the very start and should not have been taken away in the first place”.
Nji Tagne Vince, a critic, thinks Paul Biya should be impeached for trampling at will on the rights of others and playing a hero afterwards.
“Paul Biya is now behaving like God who can do what he wants when he wants. He orders the reinstatement of the internet to the two Anglophone regions and plays a hero. This type of behaviour is criminal and perpetrators need to be judged and sentenced accordingly” says Nji.

Southern Cameroons Restoration Scores Major Victory
Fellow Southern Cameroonians, we are here to celebrate a huge victory! We have forced the Biya government to vomit back our internet in spite of themselves. This is another sign that we are going to speed up the process of taking back our country from colonization.
We are on course and there is no turning back until victory at last!
Tonight is not a time to celebrate what had always been our right, God forced internet back today to enable us better mobilize towards marking the 56th anniversary of the UN general assembly vote for our independence. We still have to show solidarity to our clergy who have stood with us throughout this struggle.
This Friday April the 21st is the same day 56 years ago when the then US Ambassador - Zabloiski congratulated Southern Cameroonians on "attaining self determination", and so we must all go out in great numbers with placards to mark this day. This Friday is a ghost town to free everyone to be part of the street action.
Concerning our clergy, be aware that the case has not been thrown out; a new date has been set in Biya's mind and the secret is that the government plans to move the matter to Yaounde far away from you. All Christians must still come out this Friday to send a clearer message on how far we are ready to go. As for the University Games, they are not necessary as our children are not going to school.
Let us all be ready to fight right down to the last man standing.
God is with us!
