Students from Cameroon's eight state universities and higher institutions, have began studies for the academic year 2016/2017 .Students could be seen in their number in the Uni Complexes of Bamenda (North West), Buea (South West), Douala (Littoral), Dschang (West), Maroua (Far North) Ngaoundéré (Adamawa), Yaoundé I and II (Centre).

According to the latest figures from the Ministry of Higher Education, more than 500 000 students are enrolled in the eight (8) state universities and private higher institutions of Cameroon, on behalf of the academic year 2016/2017 .

The expectations are high as the Students hope to receive each a laptop as promised by President Paul Biya last July.

Some 15 villagers of Wokaka village have been arrested and detained following orders from the Divisional Officer for Buea,Kouam Wokam Paul. It is alledged that the villagers were caught removing pillars from lands in the village.But other sources say the detained men and women were taking part in a clean up campaign.

The chief of Wokaka village;HRH Njombe Johnson alerted the D.O who sent security forces to arrest and detain the farmers Saturday September 24,2016. It is alleged that the villagers were caught removing pillars from lands in the village.But other sources say the detained men and women were taking part in a clean up campaign.That he,Njombe cannot rule his village,hence cannot be president of South West Chiefs Conference of which he is a candidate "It is a sabotage,they have failed.

They came for me but did not see me" he said. Meantime South West Secretary for Human Rights,Christopher TAMBE TIKU for arresting the villagers without arrest warrant from the State Counsel .He moves further to say the D.O has stayed aloof over hunger strike undertaken by the villagers. The Rights Activist said the fact that the detention order was signed by the D.O means the police were also embarrassed.

A building has collapsed in the Nkoabang neibourhood in Yaounde killing a man and seriously injuring his 16 year old son.

Captain Njapa Roger an officer of Fire Fighting unit at Nlongkak in Yaounde was pull out of the his collapsed building in a pool of blood alongside his son with whom his working.

The family of the deceased will forever live to remember this dark Saturday 24th September 2016 when the cold hands of dead snatched him away and put his son Oumeni Njapa Frankie Loic in a critical situation.

The incident occurred around 10 a.m when a slab of his building collapsed on him and his two children as they were trying to pullout dry planks from it.

One of the children who survived and sustained minor injuries, Mopi Maeva recounts that her father pulled the last plank with force and it caused everything crumble.

She said, “My father, brother and I were up on the slab removing dry planks from it. The last one was a bit difficult to remove so my father exercised pressure on it that is how it fell on him and my brother. I was at the extreme end of the slab that is why I’m not really hurt. I feel pains only around my knee joints”

The elder sister Njapa Rosine says she heard the collapse of the building from inside their nearby house “I went into the house to get my phone when I heard a loud noise outside. When I rushed out to see what was happening, I discovered that the building had collapsed on my father and brother. My little sister was at the other end, so she was not seriously injured.

We shouted and called rescue and when they came they tried removing my little brother first who was still shaking but very tired. When they removed my father there was blood puffing all over him but he was still alive, so they took him to the Yaounde General Hospital because he was bleeding too much.

When my mother arrived the hospital, they announced to her that my father is dead. My kid brother is presently at the Nlongkak Fire Fighters health unit in the reanimation ward”.

The widow who was not in the house at the moment of the incident and other family members are inconsolable, all they have left is their dirge and tears to express the depth of their pain.

Captain Njapa Roger and family had just moved into the house which was still under construction. He leaves behind a widow and four children to mourn him.

Three man aged between 20 and 34 years were presented to the press as a naturalise gang of taxi robbers who have dispossess about 30 women of their handbags in a taxi in Yaoundé.

The alleged gang leader, Tsala Andre Jules who also goes by the name Boulli Jean alias Pa Ye is an ex convict. He is said to have created to gang after he left prison about a year ago for similar offences. He drives the taxi used in the robbery. He told the police that they operate about three times a week generally around 8:00pm to 6:30am the next morning. He was arrested in Essos after an attempted escape.

Enyengue Andre Loic, a member of the gang fakes the role of a passenger in the front seat of the taxi they use in their operations while Mekongo Augustin plays the same role on the back sit. Both men were arrested in Mimboman neighbourhood. They have denied any involvement.

According Senior Police Superintendent Babanguida Ahmadou, service head for Interventions and Investigations at the Judicial Police Department in Yaoundé, investigations that lead to the arrest of the gang began after a victim laid a complain at their office.

The victim noted the matriculation number of the taxi in which she was robbed of her hand bag containing her tablet, smartphone and a medical kit Bio Disque. The victim told the police that she boarded the taxi at about 9:30pm at the Multi Sports Complex to Elig Edzoa. During the journey the drive changed the direction and drove to a dark area. The passenger on the back seat pull out a dagger placed on her throat and threatened to kill her if she resisted. The accomplice on the front seat then ceased all her belongings.

A huge number of handsets including smartphones, tablets and laptops including other devices and daggers where presented to the press as objects recovered from the suspects who are expected to face the law courts soonest.

On the 20th of September 2016, a unanimous decision was taken by the Minister of Mines and Technological Development, Ernest Ngwaboubou, Public Health Minister, Andre Mama Fouda and Minister of Trade, Luc Magloire Mbarga Atangana to ban the production and commercialisation of sachet whisky in Cameroon. This decision was taken amidst the producers of whisky sold in sachets in a close door meeting.

The decision to ban the sales and commercialisation of sachet whisky didn’t just come from the thin air.It is worth recalling that the ban is contained in an inter-ministerial text of 12th September 2014, with its producers given a two-year period of grace. Unfortunately for dealers in sachet whisky, 12th September 2016 marks the expiration of this grace period. This close door meeting between Cameroon’s top officials and dealers of sachet whisky was aimed at arriving at a consensus and forwarding feedbacks to the Prime Minister, Head of Government, Philemon Yang.

Pupils of seven primary schools in Baba II Santa Subdivision in the NW region of Cameroon Thursday September 15, 2016 have received text books, pens and bags from Orange Cameroon. The Telecommunication giant through its foundation; Orange Foundation went hand on heart to handover the texts books to schools made up of mostly less well of children.

With a copy of a mathematics text book in hand, Ngwe Erica a pupil of GS Baba 2 class 6 said “today we got books from orange foundation. My mother had not bought me any text book; I am so happy, thank you orange foundation”

No such event is ignored in village areas across Cameroon. This day farming and other activities were kept aside by many parents.

As fulfilled as many of the children Amaboh Esther a parent explained: “I have 3 children in this school, one in nursery 1, classes 4 and 5. I am very happy with what Orange Foundation has done to me. They have helped me in buying books for my children. As we speak, I was still to look for money and buy these books”

Being schools in rural Cameroon where text books remain luxury, teaching is not an exciting experience for teachers reason why teachers of the selected schools could heave a sigh of relieve.

“As a matter of fact, in my school I cannot boast of two children who have text books. Last year I had one child who had a reader. We have been encouraging the parents to buy but they complain of poverty, so it is really God who touched Orange Foundation to select this school which is in an enclave area. I am very happy because it will make the children to learn with ease and their language power will change”. Achi William Headtecher GS Ipain Nge, Achi William said.

Present in Baba II to hand the text books was Elizabeth Ehabe Secretary General of the Foundation.

“We are in Baba today to foster the work the state is doing to ensure that all young Cameroonians get a good education. We are here to promote quality education by handing out English and mathematics textbooks and workbooks to the pupils of GS BABA 2 and 6 other government primary schools in the region.” She said

Expressing the importance to get good space as far as education is concerned particularly Mathematics and English, the SG regretted “we have problems right now at different levels when we see high school graduates and university students who have very poor mastery of the English language and as such they cannot really express themselves, and we have students who have enormous difficulty at all levels of education in mathematics and a lot of them give up so early because they got frightened in primary school but it was more because of poor pedagogic approach due to a lack of adequate materials.”

Coming as the second in the region after the 2015 edition handed in Chomba Village Bamenda II subdivision, seven primary schools in seven different divisions of the region, the Foundation scribe explained that “this year, we proceeded by elimination. Our ambition over time is to make sure that we can provide books to all primary schools but it’s going to take a while.”

The books she added will “stay in school for future use.”

It is worth noting that the Orange Foundation away from books and stationeries has also taken interest in the hygiene, sanitation and infrastructure with the intention according to Elizabeth Ehabe “to carry out more rehabilitation works in schools.”

GS Ber,GS Buh.GS Baba II, GS Njilvun ,GS Njwo, GS Buabua, GS Ipain Nge being schools that benefited from the donations have been encouraged to properly handle the books as no sooner than later the Orange Foundation will come for inspection.

The Orange Cameroon Foundation was established in 2009. Since its inception, it has worked on basic education, healthcare for people with communication-related disabilities, professional training and culture.
