The Minister of Public Health, Andre Mama Fouda has signed a circular calling for the withdrawal of the yellow fever vaccine, Amaril Stabilisé from the Cameroonian market. In the circular, the Public Health Minister explained that the discovery of a fake version of the vaccine was made in South East Asia.

Lot number 2265 of Amaril Stabilisé produced by the Institut Pasteur de Dakar with expiry date of June 2017 is the product to be withdrawn from the market. The producer discovered some irregularities in its packaging and carried out some analysis on the product content.

While awaiting results of the analysis, the Public Health Minister has called on all structures in Cameroon, responsible for the circulation and distribution of drugs to stop selling the vaccine.

Cameroon’s Chief of Army Staff , General Rene Claude Meka has completed an inspection tour of all military installations in the Far North region of the country. The visit took him to the Mora and Maltam Maga localities. General Meka was accompanied by senior Cameroon military officials including General Baba Soule, Brigadier General Mahamat Ahmed Kotoko, Brigadier General Jacob Kodji, commander and General Bouba Dobékréo.

Rene Claude Meka went to the war front to assess the mood of the troops after a series of multiple actions against the Nigerian Islamic sect, Boko Haram. Our military informant hinted that the army boss was visibly pleased with the morale of our troops and was quoted as saying they were determined to battle Boko Haram and send it back to its original constituency. General Meka chaired a medal ceremony in honor of 24 armed personnel of the defense forces engaged in operation Emergence 4.

Mahatmad Baha, a 21 year old MA student in the School of Electrical Engineering at the University of Ngaoundere has been killed by a fire. Mahatmad met his end on Easter Sunday. Neighbors have affirmed that a huge fire erupted after an explosion was head in his room that evening. In spite of the efforts put in to save the life of Mahatmad, the violent flames were hard to contain.

The remains of Mahatmad Baha were found in his bathroom and taken to the Ngaoundere Hospital Mortuary by the mobile police unit. He must have been seeking refuge in his bath room where the flames were not as intense, unfortunately before getting there, a great portion of his body had already been consumed. Speculations are rife that there must have been a serious leakage of gas from the bottle he had in his room.

In a country suffering from consistent electricity cuts, it is believed that the deceased in the course of lighting a candle ignited the gas from the bottle leading to the explosion and flames.

The authorities in Yaounde-Cameroon have deployed the forces of law and order en masse today tuesday to prevent the holding of the joint conference of the leaders of the Cameroonian opposition (MRC , CPP, UPC)outside the headquarters of the MRC party in Yaounde.

Some militants including Franck Essi Baba Dodo and the CPP National Secretariat have been arrested

A large crowd of supporters have gone on the streets of Yaounde demanding their immidiate release.

Amongst the opposition leader present at the conference were; Maurice Kamto of MRC, Kah Walla of CPP, Alexis Ndema Samè of UPC the Faithful and Prosper Nkou Mvondo of UNIVERS.

Authorities in Nigeria have decided to send a delegation to Cameroon following the arrest on Friday of a suicide bomber said to be one of the schoolgirls abducted by Boko Haram in Chibok in northern Nigeria. The delegation will include among others some of the parents of the abducted girls. Cameroon Concord gathered Nigeria wants the process to be done and done in a hurry and are anxiously waiting for Yaounde to give the green light.

The Nigerian delegation while in Cameroon would verify the identity of the girl aged fifteen years. Garba Shehu, the spokesman of Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari told local and international media that “As soon as we get permission from Cameroon, we will dispatch our delegation in the first available flight”.

A spokesperson for “Bring Back Our Girls” campaign noted that “If the revelations of the girl are true and fair, it could revive hopes that the girls are alive”. Some 270 schoolgirls were abducted in April 2014 during a raid by the Nigerian Islamic sect movement, Boko Haram in Chibok-a locality in north-western Nigeria near the Cameroonian border. Fifty of them managed to escape.

The turnout was unusual at the Youth Centre in Buea on Thursday March 24th 2016 as hundreds against the usual thousands of militants and well-wishers who often stormed the ceremonial ground to celebrate CPDM party anniversaries-a political party that was midwifed on Sunday March 24th 1985 at the Bamenda Congress Hall.

The current internal wrangling and animosity within the rank and file of the party in Fako III could not stop the event from being outstanding though. All attempts by the Section executive to tarnish the hard earn reputation of the mayor of Buea, Ekema Patrick proved futile. The mayor who had earlier joined other VIPs to receive the South West governor upon arrival was asked to quit the protocol line with immediate effect. Mayor Ekema, applying very skillful diplomacy not known of him resisted.

The Master of Ceremony repeatedly made humiliating calls via the public address system for the mayor to step aside before the arrival of the governor. A highly placed CPDM official from the Limbe sub constituency told Cameroon Concord that all were calculated attempts to downgrade the popularity of the Buea Mayor. It needed the timely intervention of the governor’s chief of Protocol to calm down the boiling tension that was already mounting.

Against all negative expectations, the South West Regional governor, Bernard Okalia Bilai entered the ceremonial ground and saluted the bonafide landlord of the Buea municipality with exceptional smile and handshake that attracted unstoppable applause from the sellout crowd who had braved the poor weather conditions to be a part of the event. Mayor Ekema dished out a colossal sum of 500,000 FRS to the women’s wing (WCPDM) of the party to fine tune their feast.

We learnt that the ageing former Prime Minister, Mafany Musonge was involved in a secret harsh plot to neutralise Mola Ekema Patrick and his majority following. Some political commentators have observed that they were at a loss to understand why the Bakweris of Buea whose constituency is dominated by the opposition and whose numerical strength is negligible should embark on such a dangerous kind of politicking.

Members of the ruling CPDM party of the Fako III section used the anniversary to manifest their unflinching support to the Head of State and National Chairman, President Paul Biya.

The government of Japan has donated the sum of 12.3 US dollars (circa FCFA 7.2 billion) to relief efforts following humanitarian crisis in the Far North and East Regions of Cameroon plagued by devastating terrorism violence. The amount was disclosed ON March 23, 2016 in Yaounde by the Japanese Ambassador to Cameroon, Kunio Okamura during an audience with the Minister Delegate in the Ministry of External Relations, Chief Dr. Joseph Dion Ngute in the presence of the Resident Coordinator of the United Nations System in Cameroon, Najat Rochdi.

Speaking to reporters after the closed-door discussion, the Japanese diplomat said the donation is to show solidarity of the Japanese government to Cameroon and the affected population of the Boko Haram insurgencies. “I came here with the Coordinator of the UN agencies to inform the Minister that our government is offering assistance to the refugees, displaced people and host communities in the Far North Region of this country”, he stated. To him, terrorism and refugee issues are not a responsibility of just one country but a concern to every country. Japan, he stated, is working together with UN agencies to assistance in the humanitarian crisis in Cameroon.
