Anxiety has gripped soccer fans in the city of Bamenda in the North West Region of Cameroon, following reports that the Cameroon Football Federation (FECAFOOT) has terminated the partnership agreement signed with a US-based company, Prime Potomac; that was charged with the responsibility of constructing the Bamenda Olympic Stadium.
This information was brought to the fore after FECAFOOT’s Executive Committee meeting in Yaounde, on Friday, July 14.
One of the resolutions adopted was the termination of the partnership agreement with Prime Potomac for the construction of the 2,500 capacity stadiums in Bamenda.
Other stadia that were being constructed by the same company as a result of the FECAFOOT Partnership accord included: Bagangté in the West, Bafia in the Centre and Sangmélima in the South Regions, all too have been cancelled.
Meanwhile, FECAFOOT did not give any reasons for the termination of the partnership agreement and what will become the fate of these stadia.
The foundation stone for the construction of the Bamenda Olympic Stadium was laid on April 20, 2016, by the Governor of the Northwest Region, Adolph LeleL’Afrique in the presence of FECAFOOT President, Tombi A Roko Sidiki.
But work did not effectively began until in May 2017, when during the AFCON trophy tour in Bamenda in January 2017, the population confronted Tombi A Roko on the project.
The FECAFOOT President then took an oath that the stadium will be completed and handed over to the population in six months, since he said, the construction materials were already at the Douala Sea Port.
Instead of the completion phase as stipulated by the FECAFOOT President, construction works only started in May.
However, after the termination of the contract, many people feared that the soccer frenzy population of Bamenda my go on a rampage, after they had bitterly complained of marginalisation that the 2,500 capacity stadium could not meet the demands of the population.
According to fans, when Yong Sport Academy are playing, the population that throng the field are always more than the 2,500 capacity that the Government was constructing in the city.
They also complained that such a stadium cannot host an international match, as such; it can best serve only as a training pitch.
With the termination of the project, rumour mills are already grinding that FECAFOOT should immediately engage a new contractor to commence work on the stadium before the population goes amok.

A Symposium organised by CAF will take place in the few days ahead, notably on 18 and 19 July 2017. During this meeting, according to information coming from Caf sources, one of the main issues to be discussed will be the increase in the number of Stadiums a host country of the Afcon has to present before they are deemed qualified to organise the competition.
A host country as Cameroon supposedly is, will after deliberations during the symposium obligatorily have six stadiums and not four again to be worthy of the honour.
“Cameroon has to fulfil all of the new conditions that will be adopted in a few days to come. If they are not well equipped, the candidatures of other countries will have to be considered” the President of the Moroccan Football Federation and Vice President of CAF Fouzi Lekjaa, revealed.
Morocco is already well placed to play host to the competition, as they already have six stadiums; Agadir, Casablanca, Marrakech, Rabat, Tanger and Fes stadiums.
“Will Cameroon be able to meet up with the demands? We will know in the coming days.” Fouzi Lekjaa wonders.

The Belgian who led Cameroon to continental glory in February this year , Hugo Broos will know at the latest in November if his mission continues with the team of the indomitable Lions.
The Belgian coach, 65, has four more games to qualify the Lions to be unconquerable for the 2018 World Cup. Four points behind Nigeria, leader of Group B, the team finds itself in a delicate situation and could be definitely eliminated on September 4 after their double confrontation against their West Africa neighbor.
After a failed Confederations Cup, a further setback would probably mean the end of the adventure for the Flemish, who already has tense relations with some members of the Fecafoot.
Signed in February 2016, his contract is for two years, with a one-year extension in case of qualification for the 2018 World Cup, but also in view of the 2019 AFCON.

The Minister of Sports and Physical Education, Pierre Ismael Bidoung MKpatt, has challenged the Technical Commission to oversee the activities of various Sport Federations and report to him.
The Minster was speaking in Yaoundé while commissioning members of the Commission into office.
The Commission, headed by Lucien Nanga and assisted by Eleuthere Manga Zambo, was tasked to ensure that square pegs are put in square holes.
“I want this commission to be very transparent and steadfast to enable right and competent people to take their rightful places,” the Minister stated.
He added that building up strategies for the elections of new leaders at the helm of each of the sports federations is the primordial function of the Technical Commission.
He equally urged them to examine the constitutions of each federation and point out if all have been functioning within the norms.
To the sports boss, the Commission has to critically review activities for the previous years, both at national and regional levels.
Sport federation heads have been enjoying some additional time in their offices after their mandates long expired in 2016.
During the event, the Minster congratulated FECAFOOT and FECAVOLLEY for their wonderful efforts in organising the 2016 Women AFCON and the just ended World Volleyball Grand Prix in Cameroon.
Bidoung MKpatt said Cameroon needs leaders that will boost the various sports disciplines by searching for performing sports men and women that can fly the Cameroon flag in international competitions.
“Upcoming elections should separate sport lovers from adventurers,” he said.
Speaking at the event, Eleuthere Manga Zambo, said their assignment is a tedious one, given the poor structuring of most of the federations.
“But we will follow the Minister’sinstruction to the letter,” he promised.
Most of the sports federations in Cameroon are plagued by mismanagement. Some of them lack working space, offices, sport infrastructure and equipment, hence making them ghost federations.
The situation is further compounded by poor management characterised by administrative bottle necks.
